Shocking Art

Why did you choose this idea?                             I choose this idea because it is something that I can relate to where I’m from. This is something that can affect where I am from, it can affect my community.

What did you hope to communicate?                         I hope to communicate that letter/trash  from Northgate on Del Almo and Cherry can get to Catalina, through the air, water, people, boat, and it can affect the ecosystem, and community, so please don’t litter.

How successful do you think you were?                         I think I showed my point of view, because it is a very big perspective, something that can keep expanding like an avalanche.

What would you do differently if you did it again?                    I would show a different point of view a different perspective, since we all have different ideas opinions and of course point of views.

What is another idea you might explore through “shocking art”?         Another Idea  might expand through shocking art is making a video. I have showed pictures but maybe a video showing the impact or the travel

Drinking & Drawing

  • Post your 6 sketches
  • Was it fun? Was it frustrating? Do you like to draw? Will you ever try again? Drawing with your eyes, without looking at how your drawing going, or where your at in your drawing made it a little frustrating, but it was fun drawing different objects, and not being told draw a picture of someone else’s work, but drawing it in person/ live is awesome. Yes I would try it again, because drawing is very good for me as it helps me, reduce stress, meditate, and have some time to myself, and just let go and draw
  • Do you think if you practiced for 100 hours, or 1,000, that you would get a lot better? Of course I would get better, that’s the purpose of the saying “Practice makes perfect” or “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” so practicing would definitely improve our drawing
  • What is your major? Can you think of any ways that simple sketching of some kind could be useful in your major? My major is Business Management and I can think of ways that drawing a simple sketching would help my major, and that is because I would be able to “paint the picture” for my future costumers, or show clients what to visualize or how to visualize it, so drawing is a clinic tool for business management.
  • Is Drawing a Language? Can drawings saythings that are hard to say with words? Yes they can, because sometimes your actions speak louder and clearer then your words do, so drawing can be a language, a form of showing or telling what your trying to express without actually saying anything

FINDING ART

  1. Include photos of your art

  2. Discuss the Form, Aesthetics & Content of your art.            Form- The form, is very small, smooth, Aesthetics – It feels friendly, calm but at the same time it feels rushed, it feels packed (stuffed, crowded)                               Content- What this says right here, is that college is a life of many moments. First there’s times when we will rise above average and be a big important person like the tower, but it does not mean you can not have time with your friends. It can be a very stressful, rushed, packed life but you need to enjoy the sun, and life around you, so enjoy time with your friends.

  3. Was your Art, Art before you put a rectangle around it? Why or why not?    This was not art before I put a rectangle around it. It is considered not art because It was just a plain “wet floor” handle. No one saw it as art, no one would even try to look at it, they would avoid it, and stay away from it, as they are supposed to.

  4. Will your Art be Art after the rectangle is gone? Why or why not? It will not be art after the rectangle is gone. Why?                  My art will not be art once the rectangle is gone because it is the tool of a janitor, and janitors don’t make, or perserve art, they clean for living, so the handle will b taken and put on another floor to be avoided.

  5. Does art reside in the body of the object? So that some objects are art and some objects are not art? Explain. How do we know which objects are art and which are not?                                                              Any object can be an art, some are easier to spot then others, but there is art in every object, the only important thing, is the viewer. It depends how you see, and what it means to you that makes it art.

  6. Can art be something other than an object?                                                           In my opinion art can be anything, it does not have to be an object, because as for myself I believe that life is art, and we are objects within that art even though we can’t see it.

Does art reside in the experience of the viewer? So that it isn’t an object per se, but a way and a choice of taking the time to have a viewing experience? Yes, as I said in my previous answers the viewers point of view is what matters. Any object, can be art, it all depends how you see it, what makes it art. It does not have to be in a museum, or art show, or on a canvas, or with brushes, all that matters is the viewing point, and how you see what you claim to be art

Finger Painting

  • What was the experience like?

The experience of finger painting was really fun. It is something I had never done before, and especially since we didn’t have an object, a meaning, a purpose, all we had to do was let our imagination, and creativity run freely and see where it would take us.

  • Was it easier, harder, or different than you expected?

It was definitely different, but it certainly was easy, because I felt like a little kid in a way, where I could do anything I wanted, and I could just make a messy creation out of it.

  • How was the experience of making a painting with no subject? Confusing & Frustrating? Liberating & Inspiring?

It was liberating, because we live in a world, where its “not ok to paint outside the lines”, so be able to doodle, paint, mix colors, however we wanted couldn’t have been easier or funner.

  • How does this compare to other paintings you have seen?

Its unique its own just like other painting I have seen. There was no copying another painters idea, or purpose, it’s an original, one of a kind. Painting it, posting it on your own blog, makes one feel good. You feel like a professional artist, posting the painting.

Maintenance Art at LB

  1. How did you feel performing Maintenance Art in the area around the USU?        Performing Maintenance Art in the are around the USU, was abstract. It was abstract because, when you have abstract art, it’s something different, and that is what happened here we did something different then just be in class sitting down. I have never personally cleaned an art sculpture, so it was a fun and different experience, it even helped create a new friendship.

  2. How are Mierle Laderman Ukeles cleaning the steps of an art museum and Richard Serra flinging molten lead against the walls of an art museum different? How are they the same? Are one or both “art”? Are one or both “not art”?                                                They are both unique in their own way. As in Richard Serra flinging molten lead against the wall, is art being created in an abstract way, no brushes, or measurement, or blends, just abstract art. The difference is that one looks like its making art, and the other isn’t and the isn’t os Mierle Laderma Ukeles cleaning the steps of an art Museum. Just because she’s not drawing, or has point or color doesn’t mean is not art, or else I wouldn’t be typing about it. In conclusion, I think they are both art, this life, this world all of it is an abstract work of art.

  3. Was Mierle Laderman Ukeles’ Maintenance Art performance at the Wadsworth Atheneum “art”? Did the fact that her performance was at an Art Museum make it art? What if instead, she had simply gotten hired as a janitor at a factory somewhere and performed that job for 6 months? Would that have been art? What makes an act “art” or “not art”?                    I believe her work is art, I think is is art or makes it art because it was her own idea. She thought it, created it and did it, and that is what makes it art. The reason being a janitor for 6 months isn’t art, is because that is an obligation, orders you have to take and do. There was no emotions, ideas, thoughts, or creation behind that, which to me doesn’t make it art.

  4. Is an object or an action Art or Not Art because of some intrinsic property of the medium? Or because of the intention of the person performing it? Are all paintings on canvas art because paintings on canvas are exhibited in art museums? Is all house painting not art because we don’t exhibit painted houses in art museums? Can a painting on canvas ever be not art? Can painting a house ever be art?                                      Art does not have to be a painting on canvas. Art or in order for it to be considered art, it does not have to be included into the Art Museum. I think art has to do with the intention of a person performing it. Their ideas, thoughts, vision, and creation all have to do a key roll. A pencil, a house, a computer, basically everything and anything around us is art, and  be made into art.

  5. Has Mierle Laderman Ukeles, or Jennifer Lopez, made you think differently about “Women’s Work”? Is “Women’s Work” ever art? If yes, when? If no, why not?           Women’s work is art, especially when it has to do with children. I say this because art is about creating something, and when raising children it is art, because it is their creation. Something that they need to work on in order to be presentable work. They have made me think differently about “Woman’s Work”, it is something we need to appreciate more often, especially since they do so much. Women deserve all the credit, and equality as anyone else.

  6. In class we discussed the woman who cleaned Donald Trump’s Star on Hollywood Blvd. Whose Star would you get down on your hands and knees to clean?  The person who’s star I would get down on my knees and clean for is a person known world wide and that is Kobe Bryant. Even though he may not know me, he was a mentor, a role model, an inspiration, all my life. Me being a Laker’s fan I also grew up watching him, wanting to be like him, whether that is playing like him, or being like him personally. He was a great person and I would clean his star in a heartbeat.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
